How to enhance the picture quality of the LED display, that is, how to adjust the brightness and clarity of the LED display. The picture quality of outdoor LED full-color screens, LED electronic large screens, and two-color LED displays should be considered in terms of global brightness, screen width, and screen position correction. It includes power supplies, video encoder and decoder codes, line drivers, digital signal processors (DSPs), etc. These subsystems work closely together to produce video images. For viewers, the end result is a large-screen full-color video with amazing high-definition image quality. While spectators cheered a video playback that shook the entire stadium, they had little idea of the many functions enabled by the LED drivers in that video system.
If you look closely at the display, you’ll see hundreds of individual video panels. Get a little closer and you’ll see that each panel contains 16X16 pixels. Each pixel consists of three LEDs: red, green and blue. The anode of each LED is electrically connected to the output of an LED driver. Ultimately, these tens of thousands of LED drivers control the forward current through hundreds of thousands of LEDs to generate a video image.
The challenge for electrical designers is to understand the best way to control LED current using an LED driver. Most high-end LED drivers provide designers with multiple ways to control the LED current in their systems. These drivers have features that help reduce LED brightness, such as dot correction (DC), pulse width modulation (PWM) dimming, and global brightness control (BC). Although these features all provide the same basic function of adjusting LED brightness, they are used differently. Understanding how to properly utilize these features is the key to having the best quality video.
